Yesterday was cold. Today is colder. A high of 9 degrees is not a high. Thank goodness for love and furnaces. One keeps us warm on the inside the other toasty on the outside.
We are trying a new thing this year, we call them Date Days. With our busy travel schedules for work it seems at times we have a long distance relationship. We go days and even weeks without real quality time together. This coinciding with my emotions teetering in and out of control from the yet to be fulfilled desire to get pregnant, Matt announced in January we need more intentional time together. So was hatched Date Day.
In January we went for coffee and reconnected for a bit at Starbucks in Grosse Pointe's quaint village area. Then we traveled down 94 to Dearborn and spent the afternoon at the Henry Ford Museum. For dinner we went to Miller Bar, also in Dearborn. Best burger I've ever had! That is some delicious red meat.
Date Day round 2 lined up with Valentines. We started by a drive down Jefferson through Grosse Pointe and Detroit to peek at beautiful Lake St. Clair. "Ice Berg straight ahead." I couldn't pass up the opportunity to quote, Titanic. The shore of the lake is quite frozen, less ice berg but still really impressive to see.

We continued our drive down Jefferson through Detroit to the West Village and stopped at Red Hook. The pastries are impressive but in a different way than the ice. Provided from Pinwheel Bakery in Ferndale.
Once our caffeine kicked in we headed over to the Eastern Market and braved the cold to get some produce. We've both agreed that our eating habits may lead to a Biggest Loser appearance - so this week it's sweet potatoes and turkey burgers. We're headed to green smoothy town on Monday but on Saturday it's Supino's Pizza in the Eastern Market and Milano's bakery for dessert.
Our Valentines Day was really lovely and full of yummy food. Another Date Day is successfully in the books. How can you not love Detroit... it's delicious!
